Reiki
Hippocrates once said, “Natural forces within us are the true healers of disease.”
For centuries, shamans, spiritual healers and natural therapists have recognised that the body possesses an innate capacity to heal and restore balance. Modern research is increasingly exploring the role that relaxation, energy systems and the mind–body connection play in supporting wellbeing.
My belief in this work deepened after a personal experience in January 2024 when an accident temporarily left me unable to practise and support my clients. Doctors initially expected a long recovery, with surgery likely. To their surprise, my healing progressed far more quickly than anticipated.
Alongside physiotherapy, rest and gentle rehabilitation, I incorporated daily Reiki self-healing, meditation, massage, swimming and supportive wellness practices. This experience reinforced my understanding of how powerful relaxation, energy work and supportive therapies can be in helping the body return to balance.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle energy healing practice that originated in Japan in the early 20th century. It is based on the idea that a universal life force energy flows through all living things. During a Reiki session, practitioners use light touch or hands held just above the body to support relaxation and energetic balance.
Many people experience Reiki as deeply calming. By helping the nervous system settle, Reiki may support the body’s natural healing processes and promote a sense of emotional, mental and physical wellbeing.
Clients often report benefits such as:
• deep relaxation and stress reduction
• improved sense of calm and clarity
• relief from tension and fatigue
• better sleep and emotional balance
• support during recovery or times of change
Reiki is also increasingly offered in hospitals and wellness centres around the world as a complementary therapy to support patients alongside conventional medical treatment.
While experiences vary from person to person, many people find Reiki provides a restorative pause for the body and mind.
Reiki is a complementary therapy and should not replace appropriate medical care. Clients are encouraged to continue any prescribed medical treatments and consult their healthcare provider regarding health concerns.
